Are Gay High Schools The Solution?

In 2003, Harvey Milk High School (New York City) was the nation's first public high school for gays, bisexuals, and transgender students. Proponents of the school indicated that it created a friendly environment for such individuals to learn. "I think everybody feels that it's a good idea because some of the kids who are gays and lesbians have been constantly harassed and beaten in other schools," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Opponents questioned the intent of the school. State Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long criticized the creation of the school. "Is there a different way to teach homosexuals? Is there gay math? This is wrong," Long said. "There's no reason these children should be treated separately."

Now, public school officials in Chicago, Illinois, are recommending approval of a "gay-friendly" high school because harassment and violence are causing gay students to skip class and drop out at alarming rates. Gay and lesbian students are three times more likely to miss school because they feel unsafe, according to a 2003 Chicago Public School District survey.

The School for Social Justice Pride Campus, which officials say will not be exclusive to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, is aimed at being safe and welcoming for any student looking for another school option, said Josh Edelman, executive officer in the Chicago Public Schools' Office of New Schools.

...as long as it's not exclusively limited to LGBT students, you have the making of an exceptional magnet school. As long as it's adequately funded, of course.

Everybody should know that 100 is the median IQ for the entire population of Planet Earth. The raw test scores are actually adjusted so that the IQs of 50% of the population fall above the median (100) and 50% fall below. Of course, being the median, a significant bit gets the magic score of 100, too.

Now somewhere I read in a blog entry by the rocket scientist / spontaneous transsexual Zoe Brain (her real name -- google it!), that the median IQ for the subset of the population of Planet Earth that is L, G, B, or T, is 130. One hundred thirty.

And, generally speaking, those (who are not LGBT and) who have elevated IQs are less bigoted/prejudiced and more accepting of diversity.

Yah, an LGBT-accepting school that also accepted bright heterosexual/cisgendered students could work.

If it received funding at least equivalent to the median per-student funding of other schools in the area. There's 'way too much potential for the deliberate creation of a ghetto school here...

And unlike the first poster, I am;

So............Would the teachers at this "gay/lesbian" high school be gay also? I don't think it's a good idea..... Unfortunately kids get bullied all the time gay or straight, that doesn't mean that they should have their own school

Absurd. If they have their own school, then it should be privately funded. NO TAX DOLLARS AT ALL should be used. Most responsible parents wouldn't care 2 cents worth if the school did allow normal heterosexual children to be able to also attend the homosexual school because they won't want their children all mixed up in a homosexual school all day long.

And, like the other person said, "Unfortunately kids get bullied all the time gay or straight, that doesn't mean that they should have their own school."

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. Homosexuality is NOT normal, no matter who keeps saying it is.

Don't you heterosexuals let these people in the homosexual schools have that much influence on your children all day long, five days a week.
