I agree. I do not think Obama can change the image of the black male. People have to change themselves.

The image of black folks will have to change from within Black folks ourselves...We have been great always...It has been the tireless effort of those who are mistakenly in power...to discount the superiority of the original people...My point is...Folks of Color have always been exceptional...The power people have to stop suppressing the truth and we have to stop giving in to "SELF HATE"...We are no freer than during Slavery...It is just a more sinister type of bondage and we ourselves hold the Key...Petition our colleges and University to teach a true account of Histories of the indigenous people of the earth...We only learn that the Delta trade was our only history...like they did some favor to humanity...In every area , we have been innovative and folks that are lens of them...The powers that be are nothing more than "liars" and tyrants...We need not follow them anymore...Their walk only leads to abyss..."Evil begets Evil"...With Mr. Obama on the scene is only a continuation of the struggle for the truth...Folks of Color have it all to remove the shackles from our minds...Continue to Petition this system founded and implemented on lies and VIOLENCE...Stand Up folks and Speak the TRUTH...Peacefully empower each other and don't let Bias Prevail... Peace to all...J.Esq

Dr. Hoston good critique. Let me ask you a question not proposed in the blog, why do we need Obama to help change the image in the first place? Its amazing still how powerful skin color is.

It is not the change that Obama brings, it is the standard that most black males will have to learn to live up to. Just because we support Obama does not mean he aids in the Black males reflection on himself. Black males have to want to rise above their influences and want to make a positive change for themselves. We cannot look at the achievements of one person and expect everybody else to fall in line. Our outlook at the African- American black male today is negitive because of what sides of African Americans they want to reflect. Like most Africans, Blacks have a sense of warrior hood that has been passed down from generation to generation that divides both tribes in Africa and the black African Americans here in America. It is because Black males have to show their sense of ownership to something we get what we call todays black male. Always having to prove themselves to society and others that they can rise above and make the changes necessary in todays society we just don't fit the ideal white mans make on America. We never see a white man having to prove himself worthy of African Americans acceptance but we always have to show in some way shape or form that we can rise above our slave mentality teachings and become more productive ourselves. How is this possible when there are not very many rich black men who have the wealth and resources that Obama has to make that change there are more poor Black males than there are rich ones. To be blunt we cannot rise without a chance and how many opportunity does the black male have to rise when he has to keep looking at the past for hope yes we where slaves and the fact that every black man to day has to face is that we or still enslaved because they have to fear that what they do to gain wealth and influence will be question one day (jail, wrongfully accused of a crime and other forms of modern day slavery). Keeps the black males of America enslaved. Why don't we call this 2008 election campaign what it really is Whites Vs Blacks US vs "Nigga trying to bring welfare into the white house"! They all but said that this black man will never be worthy to sit in a white mans house. I like many other cannot wait to make my vote count and change America for the better!

"Lets throw some black paint on them and call them black people!"
