Congrats! Mike Tomlin

In an era where the hiring of black head coaches in the NFL is far and in between, I say congrats to Mike Tomlin, 36 year old, African-American head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tomlin was a beneficiary of the "Rooney Rule", which requires any team with a head coaching vacancy to interview at least one minority candidate (Dan Rooney is the owner of the Steelers). In fact, Tomlin credits his hiring to the Rooney Rule. "I have no question it helped me get this job," said Tomlin in 2006.

What will be the social ramifications of the second African-American coach leading a team to a Super Bowl win?

Brotha, as a black female, it feels good to see you take your rightful place (the head and not the tail)!

Hopefully more minorities will be given coaching oppurtunties as a result. If the majority of football players are black, shouldn't their coaches and GM's be black? Doug Williams can take a team to a championship but I don't see that changing sterotypes on black QB's. Hopefully more black coaches are successful and Donovan McNabb figures out how to win the big game (we all know the media is cheering him on, right Rush) so we can get rid of the racist Art Rooney rule. And another thing, the League needs more white cornerbacks. It's just racist!
