The economy has not been left alone in almost 200 years. During the 1800's we have witnessed one of the worst examples of government intervention in the economy ever. This was the government intervening on the side of big business and the rich. There have been examples of the military shooting and even dropping bombs on unions. For some reason, however, people point at this and call it the free market. That is because they are stupid and do not understand either history or economics.
