RISKY MOVE! TO PICK PALIN

On Friday, August 29, 2008, Senator John McCain and Republican strategist took a unprecedented and risky move by choosing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Vice President Nominee.

Gov. Palin, 44, who's in her first term as governor, contradicts all the criticism that Republicans have charged toward Senator Barack Obama claiming that he is too inexperienced to run for President. August 29, also marks the birthday of Senator McCain, 72. So the internal question is, if he cannot fulfill his duties as president, will she be able to lead the country?

Gov Palin was mayor and a council member of the small town of Wasilla and was chairman of the state Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's oil and gas resources, in 2003 and 2004. Her biography hardly lends to support the notion that she is ready to be the Vice President nominee.

The PROS- She will attempt to mobilize the base of white women voters 35-55 (and African-American women) that strongly supported Senator Hillary Clinton. Palin has a strong ideological position on issues, especially on abortion. Most important, she is a woman. The legislative record of Senator McCain shows that he has not been an advocate of issues dealing with Women’s Rights. Will she take advantage of the past Obama/Clinton rift?

The CONS- She is highly inexperienced and while the gubernatorial office is a breeding ground for the Presidency, she has only been in office a few years. She is the first woman to be nominated for vice president as a Republican and only the second to run for vice president on a major party ticket, after Democrat Geraldine Ferraro in 1984.
Did her selection provide the Republican party with a stronger presidential ticket?

Governor Palin is NOT pro-American jobs. In January she was deliighted when Canada's proposal for a 1,715-mile, $26 billion pipeline running from the Slope to Alberta became public for the first time. Its application also contained a surprise -- the suggestion the U.S. government might need to take on some of the huge risk of the pipeline by signing on as a "bridge shipper." This means the government would agree to pay some of the pipeline transportation fees -- potentially billions of dollars -- should gas producers not commit enough gas initially to operate the line at full capacity. The Palin administration downplayed the bridge shipper concept, calling it just an idea that didn't disqualify TransCanada from winning an exclusive state license under AGIA, the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act. So Canada gets the pipeline contract, the workers and people of the United States will "bridge shipper" support the contract. Nice work Palin - can't wait for the debates.

Staunchly against abortion rights by Republicans. I am not female but I am not comfortable with this issue as I respect women's civil rights. Overall, Republicans has a reputation of being bigots over civil rights of women, gays, lesbians, people with disabilities, etc. Then, therefore, I will vote Obama and all Democrats. I had enough with Republicans causing a lot of problems with Irag war and economy.

Palin is a incompetent and inept at most everything she has done. Someone find her credentials, find her experience, find her leadership ability.. YOU CAN"T!!!!!!!!!
However, the economic devestation will follow for Alaska.. When this woman has her way.... Knocked up or not.. She is killing the state that I have raised 3 children in and need jobs for the future. And I would like to stay and retire in Alaska....Sarah is a pregnant retard.....

She proposed today a short-term energy plan to deal with rising energy costs in Alaska. To do that, she plans to hand each Alaskan a $100 “Energy Debit Card” each month for a years, and funneling surplus money — your money — to electric utilities to cut rate payer bills.

The total tab? Something like $1.2 billion for the first year. That’s with a “b.”

What’s next? If this is going to be an unabashed, unapologetic socialist state let’s rename it “VENEZLASKA.” Sarah wants to be YOUR VP.....Welcome to Socialist States of America

Kudos to Senator McCain for an inspiring pick. I won't be voting for him, but I'm proud to be an American today. Just think - no matter what, the first African-American president or the first female VP! And she looks to be a genuine reformer, just like McCain. If the Republican Party can really clean up its act, they might be able to win me back as a voter, and that's something I thought I'd never say. Any good ideas the party seem to have gotten completely lost in corruption - but McCain/Palin is a great first step to cleaning up the party and the nation.

I'll be happy no matter who wins in November.

Maverick or suicidal ? How could McCain think choosing inexperienced Palin could get the vote of independents or middle of the roaders who were on the fence ? Will the ultra conservatives, who will love the viewpoints of Palin, think that her experience qualifies her to be a heart beat away from a 72 year old President who has had reoccurring serious skin cancer ? I would not take that chance.

Here are five reasons why this is a huge mistake:

1. There goes McCain's best argument.

He cannot say Obama is not ready but she is. Obama started organizing his campaign for president the same month she was sworn in to lead the third-smallest state's government.

2. She has no base of support.

Obama won his senate seat with 3,597,456 votes, that's more than five times the population of Alaska. He has won more than 18 million votes in a long, tough primary that tested him and prepared him.

How has she been tested?

She lost her first bid for statewide office, then won the governor's office with 114,697 votes, not a majority, but enough to take office.

And apparently, enough to set her up for the Oval Office.

3. The "woman card" will backfire.

She's no Hillary Clinton..none of the MEN
in the RNC/GOP lie machine could have come
as well it would be different if she were known to anyone or qualified or something.

4. Alaska, a corrupt hinterland.

Yes, she is a hard-nosed, tough reformer. But the McCaint campaign will have to deal with the fact that Alaska seems like a foreign land as corrupt as Louisiana.

It's longtime senator will stand trial smack dab in the middle of this campaign season, and McCaint may have to vote to remove him from office.

Yes, they can spin it that she is someone cleaning up the mess up there, but what Americans realize is that they don't know much about what goes on up there. Will they be comfortable with her?

5. Was this McCaints choice?

It seems clear that McCaintwanted to go with Lieberman but was talked out of it by the right wing of his party. Rove admits calling Lieberman to ask him to pull his name out. Bush lost his way because he never stood up to Rove et. al.

McCaint' once again is headed down the same path to ruin and political suicide

I agree that this is a risky move but one might say that it is a brillant one. Yes there are loads of contradiction in the move but in the last few weeks McCain's handlers have been making some great moves. For example: the ad ran during yesterdays election congratulating Obama on a job well done, and this announcement of Govenor Patlin as his running mate. The McCain campaign realizes that who ever gets those 18 million Hillary Clinton votes will win this election point blank period. This pick puts him in the best position to at least get some of them. Hopefully the people will be able to read through all of this and make the right decision."Eight is Enough"
