Republicans Best Chance in 2012

As Republican leaders sift through the ruins of the 2008 election and debate the party's future, is Mitt Romney the answer???

I personally believe people underestimate the negative perceptions that countless Americans hold toward the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The press was ruthless to Romney about being a Mormon. Moreover, I saw on CNN the other day that his wife was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and already suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (albeit in remission).

The best choice in 2012 for the Republican Party will be Mike Huckabee. Let us not overlook the fact that this man won 48% of the black vote in a very Democratic state; one in which a Republican had only been elected one time since Reconstruction. Huckabee appeals to so many because of his socially conservative views. Seven out of ten black Californians who cast ballots at the presidential election favored Proposition 8. I have always had the view that black Americans are predominantly socially conservative and this vote reaffirms that belief. Mike Huckabee is an affable man and gifted orator as well. His promotion of a Fair Tax -- despite what the critics may say -- allows those in poverty an opportunity to climb out of poverty.

Would it have been an Obama versus Huckabee race if Fred Thompson had withdrawn a few days earlier? Most likely. It would also have been Clinton, rather than Obama, if John Edwards had been honest about his adulterous affair and withdrew from the race as an honorable man.
